Orchard, an airy new cider-driven restaurant from the owners of The Cider Farm, opened Friday at 881 W. Verona Ave. in Verona. John Biondi, who owns the restaurant with wife Deirdre Birmingham, said the team is "easing into" things for now and planning a grand opening in May when the patio opens. Biondi and Birmingham own The Cider Farm, an orchard and farm near Mineral Point which produces cider and apple brandy.

The November Cooking with the Cap Times event, held Thursday, Nov. 21, at Furniture & ApplianceMart, featured private chef Jennifer Schwarzkopf, former culinary director for Good Brothers Hospitality Group. Leading up to the holdiday, Schwarzkopf demonstrated how to prepare two classic Southern Thanksgiving sides, creamed corn casserole and sweet potato casserole. Attendees got to taste the final dishes and enjoy a glass of bubbly from our wine pairing sponsor, Leopold's Books Bar Caffé.

The October Cooking with the Cap Times event, held Thursday, Oct. 17, at Furniture & ApplianceMart, featured Luis Garcia of Paoli Schoolhouse American Bistro. Garcia prepared a Mexican dish called tetelas, made with homemade masa tortillas, black beans, semi-soft menonita cheese (Queso Chihuahua), a green salsa and Mexican crema. It was served with a side of verde rice, tinted green by poblano peppers, onions, garlic and cilantro.

Congratulations to Northside Lounge for being voted the winner of Madison Old Fashioned Week 2024! With over 300 votes cast, the race to crown Madison's best old fashioned was fierce. Ultimately, the Cherrywood Smoked Old Fashioned from Northside Lounge (a first-time participant) took the win with 69 votes. One S'more Please from Jordan's Big 10 Pub earned second place with 54 votes, and 'Ol Smokey from Licari's Bar & Grill was right behind with 53 votes.
