The City of Columbus hosted the 2025 Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony on April 25 at Columbus City Hall’s City Council Chambers. Held in recognition of the 40th anniversary of JewishColumbus’ first Holocaust ceremony, the event featured speaker Sandy Hackman, a child of Holocaust survivors, as well as comments from council members and community lay leaders.

The Columbus Jewish community will be commemorating Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, and celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, in the coming weeks. Led by JewishColumbus, the two holidays – one solemn, and the other joyous – will offer chances for the Columbus Jewish community to gather in solidarity to both reflect and celebrate what it means to be part of the global Jewish diaspora, according to Efrat Speckman, director of Israel and overseas at JewishColumbus.

Congregation Agudas Achim in Bexley has launched a $1.5 million fundraising campaign to support the synagogue’s future. The campaign, titled “Makom Campaign: Creating Our Jewish Place from Generation to Generation,” will be conducted over the next three years and will “ensure the future vitality and sustainability of our beloved synagogue,” according to a March 25 news release from the shul.
