    The Bellevue Community Club, which officially received its non-profit status in 1991, has donated more than $560,000 to local projects and programs over the past three and a half decades, with the most recent being a $5,000 donation toward the permanent restroom project at the Ensign Memorial Park youth ball field.

    For the past 150 to 170 years  Bellevue, Maquoketa and Preston have (and continue to have) strong community newspapers. But many may not know that several smaller Jackson County towns had their own newspapers back in the day as well. For example both Andrew and La Motte has their own newspapers for a time; and in fact, Andrew had one of the earliest newspapers in Jackson County, The Western Democrat, which was first published in 1851 by J.B. Dorr.
