Oklahoma Attorney General Genter Drummond sent an open letter Thursday demanding Gov. Kevin Stitt deport refugees from Afghanistan living in the state. Many Afghans fled their home country after the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Around 1,800 Afghans were resettled in Oklahoma. In the letter, Drummond said the refugees were "poorly vetted" before being resettled. Veronica Laizure-Henry, executive director of the Council on American–Islamic Relations of Oklahoma, refuted that claim.

Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols said the city would “behoove ourselves” to talk about modifying or removing a section of Interstate 244 that crosses over the Greenwood neighborhood. The mayor made those comments shortly after announcing a major reparations plan Sunday. That effort will open a $105 million charitable trust aimed at addressing the legacy of harms from the 1921 Race Massacre.

The National Weather Service issued multiple severe weather advisories Monday, including tornado watches and warnings, across Oklahoma. Tornado watches were issued for Tulsa and surrounding counties until 7 p.m. Monday, with severe thunderstorms likely to continue well into the night.

Leaders and worshippers from Tulsa’s various faith communities gathered Tuesday night at All Souls Unitarian Church for a vigil in support of immigrants amid fears over the Trump administration’s deportation policies. The interfaith vigil, organized by Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry, included songs and calls to fundraise. “Our most critical area of need, both for immigrant peoples themselves and in a stand against draconian actions from the government, is to fund legal action,” said Rev.

The Tulsa County Democratic Party is under new leadership. Community organizer Sarah Gray was elected April 26 to chair the county party, replacing the outgoing chair, Bruce Niemi. In November, Gray ran as a candidate for Tulsa County Commissioner, losing to Lonnie Sims by 1.64% of the vote. Democrats suffered major losses across the nation in November’s elections, with polls showing the public’s trust in the party has hit new lows. KWGS spoke to Gray days after taking the helm of the county Dems.
