OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A South Omaha man says he shot and killed a man who was violent and refused leave his home early Tuesday morning. Police arrived at a residence near 51st and Q streets in Omaha around 2:30 a.m. to find 40-year-old Nicholas Gomez inside the house - he'd been shot to death. "I heard all the sirens and saw all the lights and I'm like, 'Oh my God,'" said neighbor Rosanne Pickering.

3M is nearing a settlement to resolve more than 300,000 claims from U.S. veterans over the company’s combat arms earplugs. The complaints allege the earplugs, which were supplied to the U.S. military, did not adequately protect soldiers from hearing loss. People close to the discussions told The Wall Street Journal that under the terms of the proposed settlement, 3M would pay about $5.5 billion. The 300,000 claims make the earplug litigation the largest mass tort claim in U.S. history.

American Airlines pilots approved a new contract, according to an announcement from the Allied Pilot Association (APA) on Monday, Aug. 21. According to the union’s announcements, 95% of eligible pilots voted on the contract, with 72.7% of those voting in favor. The announcement said the contract includes more than $9.6 billion in total pay and benefits increases over four years.
