Each year, U.S. News announces its list of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care, which identifies hospitals that provide high quality care to expecting patients with uncomplicated pregnancies. The related Maternity Care Access Hospitals designation recognizes hospitals that are providing good care to communities that would not otherwise have access to maternity care. Patients can use these ratings, in consultation with their doctor, to choose the hospital that is right for them.

Physician Survey Gets Underway

The annual U.S. News physician survey, which captures medical specialists’ expert opinions on which hospitals provide high-quality referral care in their specialty, began today. As we do each year, our first wave of invitations was emailed to a randomly selected 10-percent subset of the eligible physicians who are users of Doximity. We start with a 10-percent subset to ensure that there are no issues with rollout before we send invitations to the entire eligible population.

U.S. News annually recognizes hospitals that meet high standards in caring for patients with uncomplicated pregnancies as Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. The goal of this designation is to help pregnant patients, in consultation with their doctors, make informed decisions about where to receive their maternity care. The 414 medical centers identified today as Best Hospitals for Maternity Care met high standards for each of the quality metrics in a detailed survey U.S. News administered.

Since 2021, U.S. News has recognized hospitals that meet high standards in caring for patients with uncomplicated pregnancies as Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. To identify these hospitals, we use objective data collected in our annual Maternity Services Survey. This year, as previously announced, we made a number of changes to the survey with a goal of reducing the effort required of hospitals. An all-time high of 817 hospitals submitted maternity data in 2024.

For more than three decades, U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals rankings have helped patients and families make informed decisions, in consultation with their physicians, about their healthcare. A unique component of the U.S. News program is the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings. This year’s edition of Best Children’s Hospitals will be published on usnews.com on October 8. Hospitals that submitted data in 2024 will receive access to an embargoed preview of their results on September 17.
