On the Ted James stand at Bespoked Manchester, this bike was practically just cooling down, having still been being built the night (or early morning) before. Ted, with his kids even helping him fill in a few gaps where tiredness got the better of him, talked us through the build of this Moto Proto. This is a Pinion gearbox, belt drive, full suspension, mountain bike. It’s an idea I’ve wanted to build for quite a few years.

If you’re a framebuilder who feels like they could use a little help, SRAM/Bespoked’s Inclusivity Scholarship applications open tomorrow. The scholarship criteria is deliberately broad – if you feel under represented, you can apply. Those selected will benefit from mentorship, free components from SRAM, and a fully funded stand at Bespoked Dresden, 10-12 October 2025. “If you don’t see people like you represented fairly in cycling, we encourage you to apply.

Pete from Alfano Cycles was at Bespoked Manchester with a bike that I very nearly ignored because I was like, ‘Nah that’s a road bike”. However, it turned out this was no ordinary road bike, so Pete revealed what it was all about. It’s not just a road bike, it is a fat road/gravel bike, – a froad bike! So, a drop bar bike designed around fat bike standards. Fat bike hubs, 100mm bottom bracket, 120/30mm axle on there at the minute, White Industries cranks.

Part of the reason for the Bespoked Bike Show’s existence is to encourage new builders to give frame building a go. Harry Prescott from the HP Bike Project is a perfect example of turning inspiration into action. I asked him to run us through the details of this, his first ever bike build. This is my full downhill bike that I’ve made. I’m just trying to find a way of making a downhill bike, basically in my garage, with pretty basic tools as well.

It’s half term, which means Benji is elsewhere. Instead, you’ve got me (Hannah). It is my kids’ half term too, but it has been an opportunity for them to go to work instead of school, tackle my housework, and generally hold the fort while I try and tick off all the jobs on my list before I depart Singletrack Towers for the final time. My FGF debut was at number 253, meaning I’ve been around for five hundred and something effgee-effsis. Ah… back in the day. When 1x was new. Ebikes were rarities.

Andi Sykes highlights a few of the bikes and components that impressed him. Words and pics by Andi SykesWhat was meant to be a trip back to China to catch up with a couple of old friends for my 44th Birthday quickly changed to a whirlwind tour of China’s booming cycling scene and a first-hand look at how the Chinese MTB scene had changed in the 10 years since I had left.
