The charming village of Dresser, Wisconsin, is located atop the ancient basalt gorge of the Dalles area of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. Home to fewer than 1,000 people, the historic community sees plenty of visitors each year who come to take advantage of the river, the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, and the area's incredible fall foliage. And when the snow flies in the Badger State, I think Dresser also happens to be one of the best winter towns in Wisconsin.

A few years ago, I was driving back home to Minnesota from a camping trip on Michigan's Upper Peninsula and got on U.S. Route 8, which would take me through some of the prettiest parts of Wisconsin, including the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and all its incredible trails.

When I was a little girl, going to the flea market was an event for my family. Me, my brother, our parents, and even our grandparents would pile into the car and drive 90 minutes to the Jockey Lot. It's an epic flea market located in South Carolina that is now considered the largest flea market in the Southeastern United States. I remember it fondly. Wausau is an up-and-coming city of around 40,000 that sits on the edge of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in north-central Wisconsin. What we like about this city is that it's big enough to offer plenty of amenities to its residents and visitors, but it's small enough to feel like a welcoming community. Plus, it sits at the doorstep of some of the most beautiful places in the Badger State.
