RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — The yearslong push to create a special parks district in Washoe County is gaining momentum, with local parks leaders set to meet next week for a joint meeting about the future of the initiative. The effort, advocates say, is responding to residents who desire more and better parks, trails, open spaces and recreation facilities in the Truckee Meadows.

The incident, in which 3 people were injured by debris, happened as a Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputy tried to break up a 'physical disturbance' at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. Plainclothes Reno Police officers responded to help the deputy, with one of them jumping a fence to get there faster. The gun accidentally fired when an officer's holster got caught on the fence, causing it to be dislodged, fall on the ground and fire a single round when it hit the ground.

Assembly Bill 350, which takes effect in October, requires cemeteries mow grass regularly, treat weeds annually and provide access to inaccessible areas of the grounds.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — It is crunch time in Carson City — less than a week remains in the 83rd session of the Nevada legislature. Major policy proposals, big budget questions and the endgame are all still up in the air. Will education get a funding increase this year? Is there room for state workers to get raises? What about tax credits for movie companies? Will Governor Lombardo’s major pieces of legislation make it through and how many bills will he veto?

The controversy involving the Muslim portion of a Reno cemetery inspired a bill now signed into law by Gov. Lombardo. It requires cemeteries do regular landscaping maintenance and requires a district court order to exhume a body. My follow-up report: https://t.co/gWXgxpcwVl

Final tally from the 2025 #nvleg: 605 bills sent to Gov. Joe Lombardo's desk 518 signed into law 87 vetoed In statement, he says he's proud of 'meaningful' progress in education and housing and didn't take the vetoes lightly: https://t.co/F4NOXmCJvl

Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo unexpectedly vetoed a bill that would have required Nevada voters to show photo ID at the polls. Here's his reasoning for rejecting this version of voter ID (a different proposal will still be on the ballot in 2026) https://t.co/E1xCvvYUL8
