OSCODA – Oscoda was already a big time underdog in their home Northern Michigan Soccer League game with Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart on Friday. An early injury only hampered their bid for an upset, and the Lady Owls lost the girls soccer contest, 8-0. “They are a good team, they beat McBain Northern Michigan Christian, we did better in this game than we did (against NMC) and they are the team to beat,” head coach Ray Ruemenapp said.

OSCODA – Oscoda kind of had a feeling that Beaverton would be a pretty tough match up in their baseball season opener. That was exactly the case on Friday, as the visiting non-conference Beavers took care of the Owls, sweeping them on scores of 14-0 and 22-0. Beaverton is annually a tough squad out of the Jack Pine Conference. “Those didn’t go very well at all,” head coach Luke Williams said.

STANDISH – A total of 11 teams took part in the Sunrise Invitational at Standish-Sterling on Friday. Locally Hale, Oscoda, Whittemore-Prescott and AuGres all took part in the event. Oscoda was in the large school division, and both its girls and boys team finished in sixth place. Starting with their boys’ team, Hunter Vincenty-Cole was third in the 100 meter dash with an 11.72 and Izhar Sevilla was sixth in the 800 at 2:28.50.

TAWAS CITY – It’s no secret that the Tawas Area golf team has some lofty team goals this spring. They’ll get an early look at where they stand this weekend as they are set to host the Tawas Bay 2-Day Invitational. On Friday, teams will play 18 holes at Red Hawk Golf Club and Saturday things will conclude with another 18 holes at Huron Breeze Golf Club. “This will be a tremendous measuring stick for us,” Tawas head coach Paul Vainer said.

TAWAS CITY – The Tawas Area track and field team opened its season at a North Star League meet at Fairview on Thursday. Host Fairview won the boys’ side with 88 points, Tawas was second with 72 and Posen placed third with two points. For the girls’ side, Tawas took first with 84 points, Fairview was second with 76 and Posen managed 12 points.
