National Club Golfer were invited to the opening of the new La Reserve Links golf course at the Heritage Resort, Bel Ombre, Mauritius. It promises something different, but does it deliver? The Heritage Resort is part of the Rogers Group and from a golfing perspective is known for the excellent Le Chateau golf course which is regularly voted the best course in the Indian Ocean. They have now built a dramatically different second course, in a links style, called La Reserve.

Set amongst 1000 acres of outstanding, natural parkland, the Knole Park golf course meanders magically through Knole Park, near Sevenoaks in Kent, with stunning vistas providing a magnificent backdrop to your round. A round at Royal Ashdown Forest Old is like taking a trip back in time. A time when courses were uncovered rather than created, and when the game was more about skill than power. Yet despite the fact there is not a single artificial feature to be found – including bunkers – and even though, by modern terms, the yardage of under 6,500 is modest, you will need more than a 460-cc driver to tame this classic old course.
