Locating the notecard-sized slip of personalized stationery, the SEC commissioner flashed it toward a handful of reporters, revealing a game’s worth of scores, stats and other scribbles, along with a pair of quotes pressed into the top of the sheet. “There’s two mantras that I have if you walk in our back door,” Sankey said, referencing those aforementioned quotes.

After a busy couple of days and a few long nights, I’m headed home to South Carolina following another great Final Four. Looking forward to locking into the happenings down at Augusta National this week (and the House settlement and whatever else is going on in college sports in the coming days). Ball State C Payton Sparks’ announcement appeared like so many others over the last four years -- red-and-white emojis coupled with a flexing arm, an accompanying video flashing highlights and a commitment graphic affirmed what was expected. Sparks, a second-team All-MAC performer in 2023, was transferring to Indiana. “Committing to IU was a dream for me,” he told the Indianapolis Star in March 2023. “As soon as I did, I just haven’t stopped smiling the whole day.”Those smiles only lasted so long.

Tim Pernetti hasn’t exactly shied away from being different. He’s openly discussed private equity and conference naming rights. It’s only a month ago his league also instituted a measure requiring schools to put at least $10 million total toward revenue sharing with athletes by 2027-28 should the House settlement receive approval.
