Strong winds have lashed south-east Queensland as ex-Cyclone Alfred made landfall over the mainland last night. As the system weakened, much of the focus had turned to the expected high rainfall totals and fears for life-threatening flash flooding, meaning many residents were surprised to see powerful winds smashing the suburbs of Brisbane. Even more homes are now without power, with more than 320,000 Queensland customers impacted on Sunday morning, and another 16,000 in northern NSW.
