The regular season was a memorable one for Delaware County baseball teams as five — Buckeye Valley, Big Walnut, Olentangy Orange, Olentangy Berlin and Olentangy Liberty — came away with their respective conference crowns. The Patriots and Pioneers split the title in the OCC-Central Division while the Golden Eagles, Barons and Bears all locked up league bragging rights for at least the second consecutive season.

Both saw their stellar seasons come to a close Wednesday afternoon, though. Hayes, which fell to Grove City in a Division I regional semifinal at Cornwell Field in London, took an early lead with a first-inning run before momentum swung in the third.

Fourth-seeded Olentangy (20-7) kept is season alive with a 5-1 win over 12th-seeded and visiting Hilliard Davidson. The Braves broke the scoring seal with a run in the second before breaking things open with three more in the third.

More than a few of the area’s top track & field athletes won district championships over the weekend, punching tickets to the upcoming regional showcase in the process. In Division I, District 3, Delaware Hayes’ Chaz Sakala proved he was the fastest on the track by winning the boys’ 100- and 200-meter dashes in respective times of 10.63 and 21.68 seconds.
