An ongoing surge of demand from technology — particularly the fast growing artificial intelligence sector — is pushing expansion of an existing data center site at McClellan Business Park. Sacramento County is processing an application by Prime Data Centers to expand its existing data center at the park by nearly 130,000 square feet in three buildings. Representatives for Prime Data Centers didn't return calls seeking comment on Friday.

With approval from the city's planning commission earlier this week, the owners of 2140 Professional Drive are marketing for what could be up to 14 spaces for ownership in the building.

On the one hand, the pending closure of the Macy's department store at Downtown Commons in Sacramento is a loss of a long-running retail hub and one of the anchors of that destination retail/entertainment area. On the other, though, it means a full square block of real estate in the heart of Downtown Sacramento is likely to become available, for either re-use or a new use entirely.

Construction is still nearly a decade off — at best — for a new bridge linking Truxel Road in Sacramento to the city's redeveloping River District. But Sacramento City Council is likely to vote next month on a critical piece of the plan: What transportation modes the future Truxel Bridge accommodates, and how. "We hope they would go with the staff's recommendation," said Fedolia "Sparky" Harris, a principal planner for the city.

A plan announced nearly two years ago to save much of the Clover Valley area in Rocklin from development is in jeopardy over a shortage of funds. William Jessup University President John Jackson said the conservation partnership has until Jan. 31 to come up with $8.2 million to buy 402 acres of Clover Valley on Rocklin's northeast side. "We are working feverishly with the Cities and the County and various Foundations to achieve this worthy goal," he said in an email.
