STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- A 28-year-old Hornell man will spend the next 15 years in prison after being sentenced on Friday, May 30th for a fatal Avoca crash that happened in August, 2023. According to Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker, 28-year-old Michael Eldridge was sentenced to the 15 years on an assault charge, along with being sentenced on multiple manslaughter charges and more.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A 42-year-old man is dead after a single vehicle crash in the Town of Elmira during the early morning hours on Friday, May 30th. According to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, it happened on Jerusalem Hill Rd near Bowlby Rd. when a 2019 Nissan Murano went off the road and crashed into a tree. Police say the man, who has not been identified, was found unresponsive by first responders and transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

BRADFORD COUNTY, PA (WENY) -- The Bradford County District Attorney announced on Friday, May 30th that a 37-year-old from Williamsport, PA has been sentenced for raping a minor in Troy Township back in 2022. Robert Eckard will spend a minimum of ten years in prison, and could be behind bars for up to 30 years. Eckard's sentencing comes after he was convicted of rape of a child, who according to the DA, was between 12 and 14 at the time of the assault.

BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- New York State Police announced on Friday, May 30th that a 47-year-old man from Bath has been charged with arson in connection to a house fire that happened in the Town of Bath back on February, 6th, 2025. Timothy DeWolf was arrested after police said that a preliminary investigation determined that the fire was suspicious. At the time of the fire, WENY News was told by first responders that the home was not occupied at the time of the fire.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The West Elmira Police Department announced on Friday, May 30th that they are looking for the public's help in the search for 88-year-old Sonjia Shay. Shay is a West Elmira native, and is described as 5’4” tall white female with brown eyes, a slender build and blondish-colored hair. She was last seen on Wednesday, May 28th at 2 p.m. when she told friends she was feeling unwell. According to police, it's believed that Shay left her home on foot in West Elmira on May 28th.
