We use technology to make and fix things, but what if it can help us be curious and possibly understand and accept people with different points of view? The AI overview we got when asking Google, “What is an icebreaker activity?” is: “a game, event, or activity that helps people get to know each other and build rapport. Icebreakers can be used in meetings, social gatherings, or to help people form a team.

Our last post introduced a novel interface with a facial expression drawn on the sides of a cube made of a sponge, to guide the tone of a Generative AI response. Showing a face to the camera on a phone or tablet prompted Generative AI’s response to come from a curious, thoughtful, skeptical, or confident point of view. Besides getting people to see how tone affects responses, the unusual interface might help people remember the experience well.

This is the first blog in a series that will consider positive uses of technology. We start by introducing the idea of a physical/tangible interface that modifies a Generative AI prompt to make a student aware of the way different personas might view a question. The question “Is technology a force of good?” might be asked from a skeptical, thoughtful, confident or curious position; Generative AI’s answers to these very different positions will also be very different from each other.
