The novel unfolds in the fictional Midlands town of Brexham, following the adventures of Simon Fox, a driven young reporter on a traditional weekly newspaper, embedded in its community during the final era of hot-metal production.

The airport has also been named as a finalist in both the Positive Impact category of the Travel Industry Awards and the Airport of the Year categories for both the National Transport Awards and the Travel Industry Awards by TTG.

One of Devon's forgotten railways left deserted for more than 50 years still holds remnants of its once bustling former past. Findings by Dr Richard Beeching resulted in the closure of 2,363 stations and 5,000 miles (8,000 km) of railway line. This accounted for 55 per cent of stations and 30 per cent of route miles across Great Britain, with a significant number of these being in Devon.

Tensions are running high over plans for a patch of land near East Midlands Airport, after it emerged one of the owners had the site designated as “nationally significant” by the Secretary of State. The land, which is near the Leicestershire village of Diseworth, and between the A453 and Clements Gate / Long Holden, is jointly owned by EMA and development company SEGRO, which operates the East Midlands Gateway logistics park on the northern perimeter of the airport.
