Last Thursday some 8,000 Montrealers — from a broad spectrum of cultural communities — came together to march, rally and celebrate the 77th anniversary of the rebirth of Israel. They marched from Macdonald Park near Hampstead, down closed Décarie service roads spanning some 10 blocks and ended at Van Horne Park in Côte des Neiges. Across from the celebrants at the parks were some dozen pro-Palestinian demonstrators and four members of an anti-Israel marginalized ultra-orthodox sect.

After the OQLF’s ridiculous direction to the STM to remove ‘Go Habs Go’ from buses and replace it with a French phrase, it was surprising and heartening to see French Language Minister Jean-François Roberge declare that the OQLF had gone too far. After international embarrassments like ‘Pastagate’, this is the first time we can recall a Quebec government reigning in the language police. It was welcome news.

A total collapse of the NDP vote and an erosion of the Bloc Québecois vote allowed Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals to win an 18-seat minority government over Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives in Canada’s 45th general election. The popular vote was razor thin and the closest in history. The Liberals obtained 42.9% and the Conservatives 41.7% the latter’s highest total since 1988.

“Ultimately, when Canadian media fails to accurately represent support for Israel — standing at 72% among Canadians from recent polls — they contribute to the language of anti-Jewish hate. They bear the responsibility and need to fix it now!”…https://t.co/pozrN3GZKd https://t.co/0y0V8vDAlx
