BANGOR -- Maine's Department of Public Safety is mourning the loss of the state's first-ever official comfort dog. Baxter was found dead Wednesday in the state-owned vehicle he was regularly transported in. They are calling the death accidental. The Department says the 3-year-old chocolate lab was found dead at around 2 p.m. Wednesday inside the vehicle at the Bangor Regional Communications Center. The Department says it is currently reviewing the circumstances surrounding Baxter’s death.

LEWISTON -- Maine State Police have released new details in a shooting incident involving a 4 year-old child in Lewiston. The agency says on May 17, 2025 at approximately 4:55 A.M., the Lewiston Police Department got a 911 call for a 4 year-old with a gunshot wound to the head at 93 Pierce Street Apartment 2.

SKOWHEGAN -- Skowhegan Police made multiple arrests and seized guns, drugs, and cash Monday and Tuesday following a traffic stop and the execution of a search warrant. Skowhegan Police say officers pulled over a pickup truck yesterday for a traffic violation on Pooler Avenue. They say 29 year-old Patrick Grigway of Solon was driving and and his passenger was 33 year-old Kayla Bowring of Norridgewock.
