BANGOR -- Maine's Department of Public Safety is mourning the loss of the state's first-ever official comfort dog. Baxter was found dead Wednesday in the state-owned vehicle he was regularly transported in. They are calling the death accidental. The Department says the 3-year-old chocolate lab was found dead at around 2 p.m. Wednesday inside the vehicle at the Bangor Regional Communications Center. The Department says it is currently reviewing the circumstances surrounding Baxter’s death.

LEWISTON -- Maine State Police have released new details in a shooting incident involving a 4 year-old child in Lewiston. The agency says on May 17, 2025 at approximately 4:55 A.M., the Lewiston Police Department got a 911 call for a 4 year-old with a gunshot wound to the head at 93 Pierce Street Apartment 2.

SKOWHEGAN -- Skowhegan Police made multiple arrests and seized guns, drugs, and cash Monday and Tuesday following a traffic stop and the execution of a search warrant. Skowhegan Police say officers pulled over a pickup truck yesterday for a traffic violation on Pooler Avenue. They say 29 year-old Patrick Grigway of Solon was driving and and his passenger was 33 year-old Kayla Bowring of Norridgewock.
Former President Joe Biden diagnosed with prostate cancer

NATIONWIDE -- Former President Joe Biden's office says he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer that has spread. They say Biden was seen last week by doctors after suffering from urinary symptoms and a prostate nodule was found. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Friday, with the cancer cells having spread to the bone. His office said Sunday this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, but the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.

HERMON -- The director of a food pantry in Hermon is hoping a "high-end yard sale" they are holding this weekend will raise the funds they need to purchase a new property for their operation. The Neighbors Supporting Neighbors Community Pantry's Director Carol Lackedy says they've been working for two years to gather items and have filled 15 storage units with new or gently used donated items that were given to them by a company that does estate sales.

U-Maine professor concludes run on game show Jeopardy with 3rd place finish

STATEWIDE -- University of Maine Professor Kara Peruccio finished out her run on Jeopardy Monday night with a third place finish. Peruccio won Friday night's episode which got her to Monday night. She did not fare as well as she might have hoped in Final Jeopardy but still fulfilled her dream to appear on the show and then some. Peruccio is an assistant professor in the Department of History and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department.
