SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — After the Missouri General Assembly recently passed two bills allowing Missouri State University (MSU) to offer research-based doctoral programs, Ozarks First spoke with one student finishing his masters who is travelling out of state for his doctorate. Jared Shortt is finishing his masters degree in Materials Science, he plans to continue his research and education at University of California, Davis this fall as he pursues a PhD in condensed matter physics.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Missouri State University (MSU) could soon be adding research-based doctorates to the list of degrees the university offers. The Missouri General Assembly recently approved two bills that allow the university to do so. President of MSU Richard B. Williams says back in 2005, when the college first changed the name to Missouri State University, part of the legislature included a compromise with the University of Missouri.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel University Advocates are hosting its annual Colossal Sale this week to raise money to benefit Evangel students and staff. The annual fundraising sale is made up of donated items and items left behind by students after graduation and the end of classes for the summer. Featuring everything from furniture and clothes to books and games, there is a wide variety of items to choose from.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Students at Westport Elementary are back in the classroom after being evacuated when smoke was found in the library. A Battalion Chief with the Springfield Fire Department spoke with an Ozarks First crew on scene saying staff worked quickly to pull the fire alarm and evacuate students. The Fire Department determined there was no fire in the building but the smoke was caused by a broken belt in the rooftop HVAC system.

There will be opportunities to see what’s new in the garden, meet with local experts, and explore the grounds on foot or by tram.
