Child abuse is a growing problem in Austin and Travis County. On Tuesday, local leaders raised awareness about how to better protect children. "We, the Travis County Commissioners Court, do hereby recognize the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month," said Travis County Commissioner Brigid Shea. The proclamation acknowledges the importance of working to reduce the growing number of child abuse cases.

The REAL ID deadline is just weeks away. On May 7th, the federal government will finally start enforcing REAL ID requirements at U.S. airports. "As of May 7th, travelers will be expected to have a form of identification that is REAL ID compliant," said Kieren Flynn, TSA Federal Security Director.

A northwest Austin explosion shook homes and homeowners on Sunday morning. The blast that rocked 24 houses could be felt miles away. "It sounded like a big bomb," said Shirley Bell. The blast leveled a two-story home and a nearby house was severely damaged and collapsed. 22 other homes on Double Spur Loop and D-K Ranch Road in NW Austin were damaged. "I think it kind of sounded like what you would expect if you were in a war zone and maybe a bomb went off next to you," said Bell.

Faculty and students in Northeast Austin are rallying to save Dobie Middle School. The school may close at the end of this school year because of poor academic performance. Austin ISD says if the school's performance doesn't "significantly improve," the Texas Education Agency could take over the entire district. To prevent that, drastic changes are being considered for the Northeast Austin school.
