Penn State formally hired Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles to the same position Monday morning. Knowles replaces Tom Allen, who left after one year to become the defensive coordinator at Clemson. Knowles, a native of Philadelphia and an alum of St. Joseph’s Prep, joins the Nittany Lions after spending three seasons in Columbus. He played a key role in Ohio State’s 2024 national championship run: His defense ranked first nationally in total defense and scoring defense.

The PGA Tour comes back to the mainland after a two-week stint in Hawaii for the start of the five-event West Coast Swing in hazy California and then a quick jaunt to Arizona in the middle. This surely isn’t the best time to play golf in California with the wildfire devastation, so make sure to keep tabs on the Tour’s plans as you make bets over the next few events. This week’s stop, The American Express, is one of the tournaments pros either love or hate.

After a week in Maui that saw Hideki Matsuyama put on a show at The Sentry to pocket a $3.6 million first-place check, the PGA Tour heads to another Hawaiian island, Oahu, for the Sony Open. Unlike last week’s limited field tournament (just 59 players), more pros will make their way from the mainland to Hawaii to fill out the 144-player field. But the field will be lacking a lot of star power as just 10 of the world’s top-30 players will be teeing it up.
