    The magical postseason run by the Montini softball team came to a heartbreaking end Monday at the Class 3A Benedictine supersectional. The Broncos, who had outscored their opponents 34-3 in the playoffs leading up to their game against St. Laurence, fell victim to a late comeback by the Vikings. Montini took an early lead, only to see the Vikings rally for a 6-2 win. “I was so confident that we had more games to go,” said Broncos senior second baseman Katherine Filkowski.

    Willowbrook’s baseball team came into Saturday’s Class 4A regional championship on its home field averaging just a shade under 7 runs a game this season. So when the top-seeded Warriors grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first against No. 8 seed Bartlett, on a triple by leadoff hitter Jake Bonino and a sac fly from teammate Vinny Ippolito, one couldn’t help but think there was more to come for the home team. So how were the Hawks feeling about things at that point?

    Naperville North coach Dan Iverson had some good advice for freshman runner Georgia Karstens prior to her 3,200-meter race at Friday’s 47th annual Wheaton Warrenville South girls track and field invitational. “I told her that I didn’t think there was anyone in the field substantially better than she was,” said Iverson, “so she shouldn’t take a back seat to anybody.

    WHEATON – Conditions were perfect for a pitcher’s duel Wednesday when Glenbard North came calling to Wheaton North in an important DuKane Conference matchup. It was cold, damp and gloomy, with intermittent rain and a stiff breeze blowing in directly from center field. Not great weather for hitting the softball, and for the most part, pitchers Avery Miller of the Panthers and Hannah Wulf from the Falcons were in complete control just about the entire game.
