A business hub at the lorry park of a Darwen factory has secured planning permission, with developers promising to boost local employment. The proposed employment building at Sough Works in Sough Road will replace a previous approval for 10 starter units on the 1.4-acre site and is expected to create 30 full-time and 15 part-time jobs.

Hyndburn Council has announced a new contractor to complete the flagship £12.6 million project has been appointed after the original builder ISG went into administration last year. The project will now be completed by Universal Civils and Build, who have been appointed by Alliance Leisure, the local authority’s development partner.

The sum is to increase from £177.33 to £247.85 in a bid to reduce a decline in the number of families agreeing to the arrangement. Lancashire County Council which provides children’s services to 12 boroughs including Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale- is also taking steps to boost foster caring. Approval of the Blackburn with Darwen rise has been given by the authority’s children’s services boss Cllr Julie Gunn.

The arrival of caravans on the private land off Bolton Road led to town hall officials issuing a stop notice to prevent hardcore being laid to make way for 18 caravans – of which six would be permanent – at the site. Blackburn with Darwen Council then issued an enforcement notice over the lack of the required planning permission for the development.

Burials and cremations in a Lancashire borough and are set to become more expensive in the new year. The charge for buying a grave plot in Blackburn with Darwen will increase by about 5% from £1,540 to £1,625, and the fee for a single burial will rise by 3% from £630 to £650. Charges for sessions at the region's three leisure centres will also go up by between 50p and £1 from 1 January.

On-street pay and display parking charges being planned for some towns could harm the high streets, a council has said. Hyndburn Council chiefs said the move – being considered by Lancashire County Council - for Accrington and Great Harwood – would have a detrimental impact on small businesses. They said it would disproportionately affect towns and villages and would penalise residents who rely on using their cars.

It’s full meeting unanimously passed a motion from Labour leader Cllr Mark Townsend demanding ‘an urgent review of the general safety of the M65 given the frequency of accidents.’It asked the chief executive Lukman Patel to write to National Highways and Lancashire County Council on the issue and tell them in addition to ‘reject any proposal that removes any of the remaining lighting on the M65’.

Oswaldtwistle District Women’s Institute: has been awarded £500 to help towards room hire for a craft club to enable the group to continue providing a creative and social outlet for its members. Fairfield Boxing Club in Accrington has received £500 to provide free sessions aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour.

They have been asked to contribute to the development of the latest version of the masterplan for the £70 million project. Hyndburn Borough and Lancashire County Councils want bosses to attend drop in sessions on the further development of the Accrington Town Centre Investment Plan 2022-2032 or submit their views online. Last month businesses were asked for their opinions on the scheme. Now it is the turn for local people to have their say.
