A good example is that of Timothy Taylor’s Division One leaders Eldwick & Gilstead triumphing by seven runs at Hepworth & Idle. Sent in, E&G made 168-9, but they had to recover from 58-6, Ajeet Singh (43) kickstarting the revival before captain Arnie Raistrick weighed in with 27 not out at No.10. Jonathan Robinson had put the twin villages under the pump with 5-40, with four other bowlers bagging a wicket.

Expected to make an impact after their promotion, they are still seeking their first win in the Premier Division. They were at second-placed Copley and were dismissed for 138, only David Paynter (64) coping well with a four-pronged home attack. The home team's reply was dominated by Oliver Thorpe's 85 not out in a winning 139-4. Surprise packages Upper Hopton won again, this time at Bradshaw by 120 runs.

Sent in at Menston, they made a more than decent 280, opener Tayyab Riaz maintaining his form by scoring 113. The hosts then lost one of their openers for a duck, but were revived by partnerships of 109 and 80. They were 253-5 at one stage, but they needed the last pair to score four to win by one wicket with three balls to spare. That was tough luck on Umayr Hewitt, who took 6-78 from his 14.3 overs.

It isn’t beyond the realms of possibility as they now sit second in the table on 66 points, nine behind Eldwick & Gilstead. Win number three came for Airedale in a low-scoring match at home to Cowling. The hosts were dismissed for 110, No.7 Ijaz Shah making 44 as Martyn Dalby (4-24) and Ubaid Rauf (3-9) got among the wickets. Not even a last-wicket partnership of 20 could save Cowling, who were bowled out for 102, which was an improvement on 56-7.

The Summerhill Laners, who have won six of their seven league matches, picked up another maximum haul when they triumphed at home to Adel. The visitors opted to bat but no-one topped 30 in their 155 all out, with the ever-accurate Steve Pearson taking 3-44 from his 15 overs and Jack Luxton 2-30 from his 12.
