LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a Severe (G4) Geomagnetic Storm Watch for Friday into Saturday as a series of earth-directed coronal mass ejections are in transit towards the Earth. This is the first G4 Watch the SWPC has issued since January of 2005. This sounds kind of scary, but for the most part we will be unaffected.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The National Weather Service offices out of Omaha and Hastings have - as of Wednesday, May 1 - confirmed 12 tornadoes across Nebraska from the Arbor Day tornado outbreak. Of those, four have been rated an EF-3, two have been rated EF-2, and four have been rated EF-1, and two have been given an EF-U rating.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - We like to do things a little differently in the weather world when it comes to our seasons. This year, astronomical spring isn’t set to begin until March 19th. In the meteorological world though, spring starts on March 1st!Typically, we rely on earth’s position relative to the sun to mark the beginning and end of our seasons. To keep things a little simpler though, the meteorological community uses the annual temperature cycle to track the seasons.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Our latest winter storm packed a punch with areas of moderate to heavy snow, strong winds, and blizzard to near-blizzard conditions for many. The snow that fell had quite a bit of moisture with it, so many folks are digging out of wet and heavy snow on Tuesday. Now that the snow has ended, here’s a look at snowfall reports from across the area as of 11:30 AM on Tuesday.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Gov. Jim Pillen is joined by advocates for foster, kinship and adoptive family relationships, including representatives from DHHS, Nebraska Children and Home Society, and families who have been through the adoption process. To date, 331 adoptions have been completed in Nebraska. Nearly 200 children are still waiting for placement in a permanent home.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - After a very nice Tuesday, the weather should warm up a bit as we head into the day on Wednesday. We’ll also keep an eye on the chance for a few isolated severe storms in the late afternoon and evening hours, but primarily for the western zones of the coverage area. Into Tuesday night, the weather should remain quiet and comfortable.

(KOLN) - It’s a return to tradition in Avoca, Nebraska, a tradition that spans four decades. “Two local members of the community had a bar bet of who had the fastest duck, and they went down to one of the local ponds about January time,” TJ Goepfert, the Avoca fire chief, said. “It was frozen over. And they raced their ducks on the ice. And that’s where it all started.”

Rollover Crash Tuesday Morning Near Lincoln AirportLINCOLN–(KFOR Jan. 24)–What led to a rollover crash shortly after 7:30am Tuesday near the Lincoln Airport remains under investigation. According to Lincoln Police, a 19-year-old woman involved in the crash and was conscious and alert at the scene just south of NW 12th and West Adams Streets. It doesn’t appear that any injuries were life-threatening, according to Sgt. Chris Vollmer.
