What’s happening with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits? The federal program that focuses on food insecurity for millions of U.S. citizens is on the chopping block and could be cut as much as 22%. That could mean big losses for grocery retailers, particularly Walmart and Kroger. Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and other states have plans in the works to cut soda and other junk foods from the SNAP program.

A new report reveals that grocers and retailers who are more in tune with data are seeing financial benefits. The study, titled “Data-Driven Advantage: How Grocery and Retail Merchants Can Accelerate Growth,” is a collaboration between PYMNTS and Carat from Fiserv, a financial tech and services company.. It found that data-ready grocery and non-grocery retailers experienced revenue growth last year five times greater than those who did not rely as heavily on data.
