It was another month of major change for pharmacies and dollar stores in the monthly Supermarket News store map, with more than 100 pharmacies shuttering across the country and dozens of dollar stores opening. A combined 81 stores opened in May, while 137 closed, according to data from ScrapeHero.com. Walgreens saw the biggest change in May, with 71 closures throughout the nation but largely clustered in California, Georgia and along the East Coast.

United Food and Commercial Workers Local 3000 workers in the Puget Sound area have reached a tentative contract agreement with Albertsons-owned banners and several independent grocery chains. This comes after the union approved a strike authorization with 97% of the vote, UFCW 3000 said in a press release earlier this week.

The Texas grocer joins other companies like DoorDash in pioneering the new fulfillment methodDelivery robots roughly the size of a large ice cooler have hit the streets of Austin, Texas, through a pilot program between Texas grocer H-E-B, its delivery partner, Favor, and autonomous delivery tech company Avride. The Houston Chronicle reports that H-E-B began testing the robot delivery service in May from a store in Austin’s Mueller neighborhood.

Getting new customers into the store is only the first part of the game when it comes to building loyal grocery shoppers, as half never return after a few trips, according to a new report from cashback rewards app Upside. The report, “Winning the Uncommitted Customer,” based on a survey of 75 million transactions over the course of two years, showed that 50% of new grocery customers disappear after the first month.

Amazon on Monday announced the schedule for its biggest sale of the year, Amazon Prime Day, and this year the online retailer is doubling the sale to four days. In addition to electronics, beauty supplies, and apparel, Amazon’s sale for its Amazon Prime loyalty members, which runs from July 8-11, will also feature grocery and gasoline deals. The massive sale will also for the first time include Today’s Big Deals specials on each day of the four-day event.
