1. IntroductionChronic knee pain is a major cause of disability, mainly in association with knee osteoarthritis (OA) [1]. Pain and weakness are often concordant [2,3,4], suggesting shared mechanisms. Mechanistic explanations of OA pain highlight both peripheral (joint pathology) and central mechanisms [1,5]. Understanding contributions from peripheral and central mechanisms could lead to new targeted treatments for pain and disability.
