Bina Shah·Follow1 min read·--After nearly two months in the very organized, sane and sanitized developed world, I stepped out of Karachi airport at 9:30 pm last night, where throngs of people — old, young, entire families — had gathered to welcome their loved ones back from Umra. Temporarily rescinded were the security measures which usually prevent more than two people from meeting travellers at the doors of the terminal.

THE famed Pakistani novelist Bapsi Sidhwa died on Christmas Day 2024, making it a sad day for those who love Pakistani literature and looked up to Sidhwa as an auteur extraordinaire. She put Pakistani literature in English on the map with her second novel, The Bride, which I read at the age of 11 when it was first published. WE still haven’t figured out exactly who Mohammad Ali Jinnah — Quaid-i-Azam — is or was, even in 2024. Westernised liberal secular, or champion of religious freedom for Muslims? THERE is a Stephen Spielberg movie called Minority Report, based on a Philip K. Dick science fiction novella set in the year 2054. Tom Cruise plays a police officer who heads a special unit that uses Pre-Cogs, people with psychic powers who can see the future and predict crimes. When Cruise is accused of a crime he is going to commit 36 hours from now, it is merely the vision of a psychic that plunges Cruise into a desperate fight to clear his name and not be killed.

Prince William is a better pundit than 3/4 of the people on MOTD. He sounds and looks like a guy with a column at the athletic 🤣 https://t.co/9JHwYn4idE
