In this edition of the Montreal Canadiens News & Rumours, general manager (GM) Kent Hughes has a busy offseason ahead of him as the rebuild continues. The Canadiens are coming off of a season where they earned the final wild card position and now have options on how to proceed with improving the team. They have players winning Rookie of the Year honours. Others have been signed to entry-level contracts (ELC), and some, like Logan Mailloux, may be used to help the club fill team needs via a trade.

The Montreal Canadiens will be holding their annual development camp in July, one week after the NHL Entry Draft is completed. There, they will provide guidance to their young prospects; however, this summer, a 22-year-old will be attending, Bogdan Konyushkov. The promising young defenceman is known for his poise and strong two-way play. Currently playing for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), he has been one of their key contributors on defence.

The Montreal Canadiens just completed their 2024-25 season, and they surprised many with their run into the final playoff spot. They continued to surprise in the playoffs as well. Despite losing to the top-seeded Washington Capitals in the opening round in only five games, their head coach, Spencer Carbery, went on for three and a half minutes about the Canadiens after he was asked what they showed him.

The Montreal Canadiens’ season ended after they lost to the Washington Capitals in the first round of the playoffs in only five games. Which sounds upsetting, except it wasn’t. They’re a club that surprised nearly everyone by qualifying for the playoffs and making each of those five games as hard on the Capitals as possible.
