Gary French, 59, was a much-loved family man who was well known around the town – involved at the golf club, bowling club and a former player and manager of football teams Peebles Rovers and Tweeddale Rovers.

Rangers "will be worried" about investment at both Hearts and Hibs, according to Keith Wyness. The Easter Road side have already had investment from billionaire Bill Foley, who has become a minority shareholder and taken the club into his Black Knight group which includes Premier League side Bournemouth and French outfit Lorient. While the Jambos are poised to sign a deal with Brighton owner Tony Bloom for £10million investment and use of his analytics company for recruitment.

When Steven Naismith took over from Robbie Neilson, he insisted he would get the team playing on the front foot and looking to attack quickly. Neilson had often been seen trying to urge his players forward and it would end up being the same with Naismith, with the team continually playing too safe.
