A trial date has been set for a former My Kitchen Rules contender who is facing multiple charges of assault. Anthony Mu did not appear before Richlands Magistrates Court when his matter was briefly mentioned on Friday morning. It followed his wife, Claudean Bernadette Uamaki-Mu, last week pleading guilty at the same court to six charges of common assault – receiving a good behaviour bond and no convictions. The pair appeared on the Channel 7 reality cooking show in 2023.

A man accused of murdering his flatmate and putting her body in a large box – leaving it for 10 months while he impersonated her – has denied causing her death by strangling or striking her. Chinese national Yang Zhao broke his silence for the first time during his Supreme Court trial over the alleged murder of Qiong Yan more than three years ago. Mr Zhao spoke of how the pair became friends after meeting in 2017, eventually moving in together in Sydney before moving to Queensland in 2020.

A small community has been left reeling after two boys were found dead following a welfare check by police overnight. Officers attended the home on Emu Ln in Coonabarabran – more than 488km northwest of Sydney, in the Warrumbungle Shire council region – just after 2pm on Monday, following reports of a concern for welfare. Two boys, aged 6 and 7, were found deceased inside the home and their grandmother, 66, was taken to hospital for further assessment.
