There are few eras of history that I do not enjoy; each time period and each place has unique stories to tell. My personal library includes things like A Review Of The Mexican American War by W.M. Jay, written in the mid 1800s, The Life And Campaigns of Robert E.

For as long as I can remember, I have been making the statement, “No matter what is going on in the world or in your life, God’s Word has the answers you need.” Fortunately, that “no matter what” also includes finances; these days, that is good to know. The stock market is taking a pretty big hit right now. Mind you, it can go up just as quickly as it falls, so by the time this column goes to press, all could be utterly rosy yet again.

It has been just over a year since I have corralled all of the mental squirrels and done an installment of Random Access Musings. With that long lapse, the squirrels have made it all the way to the attic, proliferated, and must now be dispensed before they chew through any of the wiring. So here goes:A few weeks ago, I wrote about the pastor who called for violence against Elon Musk et al. He was not alone; many other voices joined that corrupt cacophony.

My latest book, the verse-by-verse study of Hosea (Hosea: Love When It Matters Most), is finally live on Amazon. It has been a whirlwind of emotions for me as I both taught through the book in church and put it all to print; I thought I knew the story, but there were depths to it all that still left me shaken. To say that they were from opposite ends of the track would be an understatement of epic proportion: he, the prophet, she, the well-known prostitute.

It was the bitter cold of this past winter, and things had gotten pretty desperate. It had been weeks; was she even still alive? Was she injured and unable to respond? Or was she simply being obnoxious and not returning our calls? This kind of thing is the exact reason I did not want a cat to begin with. I suppose I should backtrack just a bit and explain that, technically, this was my daughter’s cat and, therefore, my daughter’s problem.

“And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments…” Luke 16:23Jesus spoke those words that are recorded for us in Luke’s gospel. They are in a lengthy passage, thirteen straight verses on the subject of hell. He did not speak them as a metaphor; he even used a man’s name in the account. The account itself is frightening and graphic; there are flames, there is no water, and the man who went there can remember everything from his life that led him there.
