Later this spring, the city of Lake Havasu will be replacing stop signs at the intersection of Jamaica and McCulloch Blvd with a stop light. This expensive project, costing over $1 million dollars ($500K over budget), will negatively impact the safety of everyone traveling through this intersection. A News-Herald article from early April prompted me to research why this stop light is happening.

Growing up as a theater kid outside of Chicago, Anthony Rapp became a successful stage actor at a very early age, including a long run in the original Broadway production of Rent. His many other credits include landing the role of Lt. Commander Paul Stamets on Star Trek: Discovery. We spoke this week as he was taking his 2-year-old son Rye to a snowy park in New York, and I asked him if he remembered that famous math equation from "Rent," how many minutes are in a year?

The daughter of British actor Sir John Mills and older sister of Haley Mills, Juliet has starred in film, TV, and the stage since she was a teenager in the UK. Mills will be a guest this week at Pensacon along with her sister, Haley, and her husband actor Maxwell Caufield.

The City of Pensacola and the Downtown Improvement Board are teaming up to help make downtown a little quieter. The DIB has allocated $25,000 to pay off-duty Pensacola police officers to monitor noise along Palafox Street from after-market mufflers and loud car sound systems. “We are going to be out there to enforce the state statutes that are already on the books,” said Pensacola Mayor D. C. Reeves as he announced the project last week at City Hall.

Even before he took office, crafting a strategic plan for the future of Pensacola has been a priority for Mayor D. C. Reeves. Now the city is actively looking for input for a comprehensive plan to guide the city through the next decade. “We’ve had lots of plans” said Reeves. “But I don’t know that we’ve had a holistic, visionary strategic plan about what we want this city to be. So this strategic plan that we are working on is not a 100 step plan.
