First Alert: Flooding rains move in Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - After a gorgeous Monday with lots of sunshine and comfortable temperatures that topped out in the low 80s we will see a big shift moving into the day on Tuesday. A slow moving upper level low will bring in uplift across the area leading to heavy rain and storms starting off as some isolated passing down pours early and more consistent bands into the evening. Some widespread coverage could be around as early as the evening commute.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - We started the morning off mostly dry, but passing showers built in through the day. A brisk southerly breeze continues to push in plenty of moisture ahead of the uplift that is helping to develop storms into Friday evening. This system is triggering strong storms to the north with several severe thunderstorm watches. Coverage will increase on the storms as we head into the late evening hours.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - After a few early showers and storms Thursday we saw a quick return to blue sky and sunshine. We could see a few more down pours into the afternoon with plenty of warm and moist air available and several disturbances developing just to the northwest. We will continue to see plenty of dry hours with high temperatures in the middle 80s. Overnight lows remain mild in the low 70s and upper 60s.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Plenty of warm and moist air around on this Wednesday afternoon. Expect high temperatures to peak in the middle to upper 80s. A spotty shower or two is not out of the question, but we remain mostly dry into the evening. Thursday will see a better chance at storms especially into the afternoon hours as high pressure begins to slide east.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Beautiful blue sky with some puffy fair weather clouds around on this Tuesday with warm and muggy conditions. Temperatures stay on the warm side with middle to upper 80s across southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Lots of moisture around as well with sticky dew points around. The warm and muggy air will provide fuel for storms later in the week as high pressure slides east.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Monday is turning out to be a beautiful day with lots of sun and blue sky, but warm and muggy conditions. Highs will be in the upper 80s through the afternoon. High pressure overhead is keeping skies clear. Tuesday looks to be very similar with mild conditions overnight. Lows will only fall to around the 70 degree mark. We could see a few clouds to start the day, but those will subside into the afternoon with another shot at warm temps in the upper 80s near 90.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Most of the day Friday was beautiful and on the hot side with high temperatures in the low to middle 80s, but by late afternoon a few strong storms had developed across Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes with lots of heavy rain, lightning, gusty winds and some hail. That energy pushed south through the early evening before drying out into the late night.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Huge down pours just to the west brought significant flooding with some heavy rains through the Bayou and River Parishes and along I-55. Lots of warm and moist air will hang around into the weekend making it possible to see some isolated storms dump a lot of rain, but we will not see widespread storms. High pressure in the upper levels will make it more difficult for rain to develop. The ridge of high pressure will also allow temperatures to increase.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport reported a daily record 4.38″ on Monday April 21, 2025 as much of the metro area experienced serious street flooding through the afternoon and early evening. Some locations in Algiers and through the Lower 9th Ward reported between 9″ and 10″ of rain over the short period of time.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - After a mostly dry stretch of weather with almost 2 weeks rain free at New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport we are seeing better ran chances as we move into the week ahead. Shower activity started to pick up during the morning hours across southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast with many locations south of Lake Pontchartrain getting at least a light shower by mid-day.
