After falling 13-6 to the Gloucester Griffins Saturday night, the Bombers dropped a 15-11 decision to Nepean Knights Sunday afternoon in Barrie The Bombers record is now 0-6, but Barrie head coach Jeff Sinkic says his team is getting there. “We definitely came out swinging. What is the appetite for a "road diet" on Barrie’s Madelaine Drive, from Yonge Street to Mapleview Drive? Councillors approved Madelaine’s reconfiguration Wednesday evening from two lanes per direction to one lane per direction, with a centre two-way, left-turn lane both ways. City staff would also need to seek approval from Ontario’s transportation minister to implement the reduction to one lane per direction, as required by Bill 212 - Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024.

Barrie councillors have shaved $500,000 off the $3-million city loan Redwood Park Communities got for its transitional housing project on Lillian Crescent. Sitting in general committee Wednesday night, councillors agreed to forgive the half-million dollars if Redwood repays $1.8 million of the promissory note by June 30, 2025 and $700,000 by Sept. 1, 2025. But not before Coun. Clare Riepma tried to reduce the loan forgiveness to $250,000 and have the remaining $250,000 repaid by Dec.

Mid-May has become a special, sad time of year for Ashley Moniz of Bradford. Her son, Nathan, died at 20 on May 15, 2023, after he was diagnosed at age 16 with Ewing sarcoma, a rare, aggressive type of bone cancer. Which is why Moniz, family and friends found themselves at Springwater Provincial Park in Midhurst, just north of Barrie, where a team stationary bike-riding challenge fundraiser called Go the Distance for Children Fighting Cancer took place Saturday.
