A facelift is coming to the green space across from the Fergus Marketplace building this summer. The space, known as BT Corner, is located at the point where Queen Street West meets Bridge Street and is owned by the township and maintained by the Fergus Horticultural Society. According to a report to council, presented at Monday’s meeting by manager of parks Lucas Rogerson, the space needs upgrades and has been on the horticultural society’s agenda for the past couple of years.

Despite protests from board members, Centre Wellington Township council has dissolved the board of the Elora Business Improvement Area (BIA). On Monday council appointed an interim board made up of township staff, despite arguments from BIA board members that doing so was a misuse of taxpayer funds. They also felt the move does not support the transparency the board had been working to establish.

A new park is coming to the Beatty Hollow subdivision in Fergus this fall. At its Monday meeting, Centre Wellington council approved a recommendation to enter into an agreement with Keating Construction Limited to finalize construction of a park on Farley Road at an estimated cost of $477,701. “They’re looking to be quite quick with the buildout this summer,” said manager of parks Lucas Rogerson, noting the expected completion date for the new park is November 2025.

With 12 shovels and a small, symbolic patch of soil, Centre Wellington Township council members, staff and other involved in bringing the project to fruition broke ground on a big township project Monday morning – the new Centre Wellington Operations Centre. “This has been a process, as everybody knows, and it started with the previous council,” township Mayor Shawn Watters said in his opening remarks at the groundbreaking event.

High costs to renovate historic building among multiple financial pressures faced by Jesuits The historic building that was once the Jesuit college of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre, north of Guelph, will likely need to be torn down due to the high estimated cost to rehabilitate it. It’s news that won’t surprise the occupants of the building who must leave by the end of the month, said Kevin Kelly, a Montreal-based Jesuit priest and provincial assistant for spirituality with the Jesuits of Canada.
