Sooner or later we all face the inevitability of death. A 2007 comedy-drama movie titled “The Bucket List” told the story of two terminally ill men who set out from a cancer ward for adventures and experiences that they had wished for during their lifetime. They made a list of goals before they would euphemistically “kick the bucket,” and then set out to accomplish them. So what is the point of having a bucket list? Reasonably, we each want to live purposeful lives, filled with adventure and joy.

Does it look like quality time, a big Sunday dinner, hunts for decorated eggs, baskets for the kids filled with treats, and a minute recognition of the non-secular “reason for the Easter season”? It’s not that these things are bad, per se. Yet, in taking an earnest look at our own hearts and actions, do we tend to place these Easter novelties and traditions as priorities over Jesus and the sacrifice He made for everyone on Earth?

My heart is burdened for believers in Ukraine whose only hope, like all of us, in this war is their faith in Christ. By , Op-ed contributor Thirty-four years ago, when my wife was pregnant with our second child, she took an alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) test, a blood test that is used to check the baby's risk of birth defects and genetic disorders, such as neural tube defects or Down syndrome. The result was lower than normal, which could possibly indicate Down syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes intellectual disabilities and health problems.
