HERSHEY — It wasn't the colors most came for, but five local athletes collected medals through the consolations Saturday as the PIAA Wrestling Championships drew to a close at the Giant Center. Pottsville senior Nick Kunstek (160) endured some tough losses but still came home with a fourth-place medal in the Class 3A boys' tournament. All four girls who qualified for states earned medals.

HERSHEY — One blast double and four minutes of riding time carried Panther Valley's Brenda Banks into the finals Friday night at the PIAA Girls' Wrestling Championships. Banks, a sophomore 235-pounder, converted the only takedown of the match with 10 seconds left in the first period, then rode South Western's Kayla Henderson for the entire second and third periods to post a 2-0 victory in the semifinals at the Giant Center. The bout was a rematch of last year's state final, won by Banks.

For the second straight day, Pottsville's senior 160-pounder posted a shutout, this one a 5-0 decision over Council Rock South's Gavin Cole in the Class 3A quarterfinals Friday afternoon at the PIAA Wrestling Championships at the Giant Center.
