    Commissioners are expected to vote Wednesday on a pending lease agreement between Anthracite Radiation Therapeutics, Inc., and the county for the newly opened Schuylkill County Forensic Center. The proposed lease for the center, which houses the county morgue, at 15 Alliance St., New Philadelphia, would raise the monthly rent to $2,500 for the 4,000 square-foot-space. Anthracite Radiation Therapeutics, Inc, is owned by Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David Moylan III.

    A Pottsville man is in Schuylkill County Prison on charges of felony aggravated assault, robbery and other offenses after police say he shoved a woman into the road and threated to kill her. State police responded about 1:38 p.m. April 15 to Ann Street in Norwegian Twp. for a disturbance. Upon arrival, they found the female victim who told them Daniel Ganly Jr., 23, shoved her onto the road and demanded her vape device, which he later took from her while she was on the ground.

    TAMAQUA — Much of Pottsville and Nativity’s track and field teams showed out at Tamaqua’s annual invitational Monday. Pottsville’s girls won first place as a team with 156 points while Nativity’s boys won gold as a team with 173 points. Mahanoy Area, Marian and Tamaqua also took to the track. Nativity’s Michael Stank and Noah Dolbin each won gold in three events. Stank won the top spot in the 200- and 400-meter dashes and the boys 4×800 meter relay.

    A 25-year-old Saint Clair man was jailed in Schuylkill County Prison after police said he stabbed another man in the borough. Roberto J. Martir-Crespo, of 127 N. Second St., was charged by Saint Clair police after they were dispatched to the scene of an incident early Friday outside a restaurant on Hancock Street. According to their criminal complaint, police said they saw nothing suspicious when they first arrived at the scene around 1:40 a.m. Friday.

    MINERSVILLE — Rev. Jason F. Stokes rushed home from Bethlehem, where he spent Easter with family members, to celebrate Mass at Holy Family Church Monday morning after seeing the announcement of Pope Francis’ death. “He was a holy man of God,” said Stokes, who was present when Pope Francis celebrated Mass on the steps of the Art Museum in Philadelphia in 2015. “He gave his life to the church.”After a lengthy illness, the 88-year-old Pontiff died at 7:35 a.m. Monday in Rome.
