    At the NAB Show in Las Vegas in April 2025, the 8K Association hosted a panel session titled “8K Technology and its Emerging Role in the Creative Process”. After a brief introduction by Robin Raskin of Virtual Events Group which coordinated the events in the Creator Lab Theaters, 8K Association Executive Director Juan Reyes welcomed visitors. Reyes started by highlighting the growth in the ecosystem of capture, encoding, decoding and displays.

Grass Valley is not a company that we have focused on a lot as it is very clear that it is aiming at the broadcast market where 8K content is still limited. However, at NAB 2025, the company endorsed the point that the 8K Association has been making for some time, that even if your final deliverable is in 4K, capture in 8K can boost quality.

    The consumer press has got quite excited about a demonstration at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, when Samsung Display (the part of Samsung that makes display panels, rather than complete products) showed a demo of an OLED made up of tiles with narrow (0.6mm) bezels. These were put together to create a larger single display. Many have speculated that this will lead to cheaper large 8K OLED TVs. Well, there’s good news and there is bad news on this subject.
