ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Over the next few days, an area of low pressure will push across the Deep South, pulling a cold front with it. That front will bring showers and storms to the Tampa Bay area by Wednesday into Thursday, with a small chance of severe weather. Here's what you need to know about the timing and impacts: After a dry and breezy start to the work week, storm chances will be on the rise starting Wednesday afternoon. We start Wednesday off warm, muggy and breezy — but dry.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — You read that right — Tampa Bay is going to get a cold front ahead of Labor Day weekend. But it doesn't mean what you might think. You're not going to need to layer up or dig in the back of your closet to unearth a jacket — this cold front isn't going to cause that much change in our temperatures. However, what this weather pattern will do is dry us out, meaning our rain chances will plummet.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Hurricane Idalia has reached Category 2 strength in the Gulf of Mexico as the outer rainbands continue to push their way into southwest Florida and the Tampa Bay region. Life-threatening storm surge and hurricane-force wind are increasingly likely for portions of the Florida Gulf Coast. It's important to stress small shifts in Idalia's track will continue before the storm makes landfall — and parts of the region will still experience the "dirty" side of the system.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Idalia is now officially a Category 1 hurricane as it emerges in the Gulf of Mexico. Life-threatening storm surge and strong winds are increasingly likely for parts of the Florida Gulf Coast. Computer models have shifted the storm a tad farther away from the Tampa Bay coast, but it's important to stress small shifts will continue before the storm makes landfall — and parts of the region will still experience the "dirty" side of the system.

We are keeping a close eye on the tropics this weekend. There are some indications that tropical moisture building in the western Caribbean could try and drift northward into the eastern Gulf of Mexico and develop into a tropical depression or even stronger by Tuesday. The National Hurricane Center is currently giving this system a 50% chance of developing into early next week.

Maybe. The rotor can clearly be seen separated from the aircraft

What probably happened to the helicopter that crashed into the Hudson River near New York City. As explained by the U.S. Army, mast bumping can cause the mast to separate & the main rotor to come off. RIP to the 6 who perished. https://t.co/JRcvGpAmil

What do you think of this? I mean in a sport where they frown upon wearing short pants this guy thinks peeing on the course at the master is fine? Then died down says he'd do it again. Bye bye.

José Luis Ballester explained why he urinated in Rae's Creek during today's opening round of the Masters. https://t.co/4CduoJScId

ASO = Aug/Sep/Oct heart of hurricane season. Would like to see El Nino to get more wind shear but not looking likely.

#ENSO-neutral is favored during the Northern Hemisphere summer, with a greater than 50% chance through August-October 2025. La Niña has concluded, and a final #LaNina Advisory has been issued. https://t.co/5zlzaZ0D9Z https://t.co/O8Yx6o7IWk
