On 16 September 2024, the Palestinian Ministry of Health published a 649-page document listing most of the deaths caused by the Israeli collective punishment of Gaza for the Hamas massacre on 7 October 2023. The list includes more than 34,000 of the 41,000 Gazans who died directly in air strikes. The remainder of the casualties have yet to be identified.

While politicians, analysts and journalists, in sportscaster style, count the hours, days or weeks until a possible major escalation or war in the Middle East, and as Israel, despite indications that it may soon find itself in the biggest (security) crisis in its entire history, continues mass killings and demolitions in the Gaza Strip, we have to ask whether there is an actor in the wider international community who is trying to stop this possibly fatal course of events.

The radical Islamic Hamas has, in its own terms, agreed to a mediated proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Netanyahu said that the proposal fell far short of Israel's demands, but that he would send a high-ranking negotiating delegation to Egypt. For the time being he has allowed the offensive on Rafah to continue, with the Israeli army controlling parts of the city and the Palestinian side of the border crossing.

Once their target is selected, Ms. Meyer deftly maneuvers her aircraft to separate the animal from the herd. Dr. Cuthill quickly estimates the male’s weight and prepares the tranquilizer dose. He fixes the ampul atop a special dart, which he shoots directly into the male’s left flank.
