    When I entered college, I was terrified of growing apart from my sister. The future of our relationship was one of the many uncertainties I grappled with, an incredibly ironic fact considering where our relationship began. My sister was a thorn in my side growing up. Whenever I played video games when I should have been doing homework, she took great delight in ratting me out. Thanks to her, I got in trouble multiple times. Even her mere existence felt like an annoyance.

As I sorted through stacks of worksheets, lab reports and readings, I came upon a senior year analytical essay on Charles Yu’s “Interior Chinatown.” In it, I argued that the characters of “Interior Chinatown” demonstrated a sense of disconnect and displacement that is typical of the East Asian experience.
