Brooklyn BaileyThere were some scary moments on a Mountain Home School District bus Wednesday during afternoon drop off of students when one of the kids got choked on candy and was unable to breathe. Other students alerted the driver of the bus, David Luttrell, who was able to stop the bus and perform the Heimlich maneuver on 13-year-old Brooklyn Bailey, saving her life. The 8th grader explains what happened.

A former Baxter County Deputy Sheriff has announced his candidacy for the Baxter County Quorum Court. Ezra Roberts is running for JP from District 11 in the March Republican Primary. Roberts says he has been a public servant for many years and wants to continue to serve his neighbors.

While it should be a while before Twin Lakes Area citizens have to worry about snow, it is something that could be more worrisome than usual for the upcoming winter. Recently, KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot ran a news story with information about how persimmons and the Farmer’s Almanac are both predicting a snowy winter season.

The State of Arkansas has released a report on the economic values of visitors to the state and Baxter County and the Twin Lakes Area shows a big jump in spending. The report is based on numbers for 2022. Baxter County saw a 14.2% increase in the amount of money spent by visitors last year. Fulton County was up 6%, Izard County had a 10.1% increase in visitor spending, Stone County was up 3.4% and Boone County saw a 7.1% increase. Three counties in the area had a decrease in revenues.

Area citizens can learn how to respond during an active shooter event during a class coming up Thursday evening. The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) will be held at the Mountain Home Police Department and offer valuable information. Sergeant Lacy Holland will be teaching the two hour class. She says attendees will learn several ways to protect themselves during an active shooter event.
