    FITCHBURG — Four people and three animals were rescued by ladder following a three-alarm blaze in Fitchburg May 26. According to a social media post from the fire department, crews responded to a “residential building in the downtown area” around 6 a.m. and saw heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building. “Companies quickly stretched attack lines into multiple divisions of the structure,” the department wrote, and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after striking three alarms.

    WORCESTER — As the birds welcomed the sun to Hope Cemetery Monday, May 26 after several cloudy days and its flag stood at half mast, Tracy Racine rose to speak of her son. “He was only 19 years old and this year marks the 19th anniversary he’s been gone,” Racine said of Army Pvt. First Class Brian M. Moquin Jr., who died in Afghanistan on May 5, 2006. “I miss him more than words can say, but he was a brave, courageous soldier,” Racine said.

    WORCESTER — Fifty seven years ago this month, U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Michael Kustigian, 19, went missing while stationed off the coast of North Vietnam. His body was never found and he was officially declared dead in 1979. He lives on in the memory of his older brother, Harry, who spoke his name Sunday, May 25 as he tossed a wreath into the pond at Elm Park.
