The 6-6 combo guard’s stock has continued to rise and he now has an opportunity to play overseas. This past season in the Grind Session, a league comprised of prep teams across North America, Mason Jr. averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He was named underclassman of the year and selected the All-Grind Session team.

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –  New Mexico United didn’t waste much time to assert itself against Oakland Roots on Saturday. In just the third minute of the match, Chris Gloster scored. Three minutes later, Zico Bailey found the back of the net to give the black and yellow an early 2-0 lead. The United defense held its own, and Mukwelle Akale added another goal in the 89th minute. New Mexico won the match 3-0. This win by United marks the second consecutive by a three-goal margin.

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – There are two new basketball recruits to coming to UNM. On Friday, the men’s team landed a commitment from 6-8 forward Tomislav Buljan. The 22 year-old Croatia native has played for various teams across Europe. This past season, he averaged over 12 points and 8 rebounds per game. Also on Friday, the women’s team announced the signing of incoming freshman Leonor Peixinho.

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Angelo Leo will have his first title defense for the IBF featherweight world championship on Saturday. He will fight Tomoki Kameda in Osaka, Japan. The two veteran boxers have known each other for years. Leo was a sparring partner for Kameda in 2018 and 2021. They were able to communicate by speaking Spanish and they have a mutual respect for each other. “He’s a good fighter but I got I know I got the goods to beat him,” said Leo.

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – In this week’s Black and Yellow Report, KRQE Sports Director Van Tate, KRQE Sports Reporter Jared Chester, and Digital Sports Reporter Bradley Benson talk United’s win against Orange County, preview the club’s next match, and more. With the win, United is now back in first place in the Western Conference. The club’s record currently sits at 6-3-0. New Mexico has also announced that it will host the fourth international friendly in club history.
