Mexico is set to co-host the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup alongside the US, according to reports. A spokesperson for the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has confirmed to ESPN and The Athletic that the country will host games during the national team tournament, but no official announcement has yet been made. FIFA president Gianni Infantino revealed in April that the only bid for the 2031 Women’s World Cup had come from the US and “potentially some other Concacaf nations”.

Lumen Field, home of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders, will undergo a series of upgrades ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup. Lumen Field will be one of 11 US host cities during the World Cup, which will also feature matches in Canada and Mexico. Some $19.4m (£14.3m/€17m) in state funding has been allocated to upgrade the stadium for next year’s showpiece event, with the majority of this to be put towards a new natural grass pitch.

Major League Soccer team Chicago Fire has today (Tuesday) announced plans for a new privately-funded stadium, which is slated to open by 2028. The club has released a sketched rendering of how a proposed 22,000-capacity stadium could look. The stadium is set to be designed by Gensler and will be located along the Chicago River just south of Roosevelt Road.

Welsh United Rugby Championship team Ospreys has submitted a planning application for a major redevelopment of St Helen’s Sports Ground, which the club intends to move into during the 2025-26 season. Ospreys said the submission marks the “pivotal next step” in the club’s vision to establish a community-focused home. The club has played at Swansea.com Stadium, home of Championship football team Swansea City, since the venue opened in 2005.

Financial services company PeoplesBank has acquired naming rights to Hartford’s 16,000-seat sports and entertainment arena, which was previously known as XL Center. The multi-year deal has been signed between PeoplesBank, Oak View Group and the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). As part of the agreement, the venue will be rebranded as PeoplesBank Arena. The arena serves as the home of American Hockey League franchise Hartford Wolf Pack, which is an affiliate of the NHL’s New York Rangers.
